Conor McGregor Childhood Story – Early Life and Family Background:

For Biography starters, Conor Anthony McGregor was born on the 14th day of July, 1998, at Crumlin in Dublin, Ireland.

He was the only son born to his mother, Margaret McGregor, and his father, Tony McGregor (a Taxi Driver at the time).

Like John Cena, baby Conor’s birth was one of the rare occurrences. However, Conor’s case was not prone to birth complications as he was only born with a clenched fist. According to his father Tony:

“His fists were clenched coming out of the womb like he was ready to fight. The midwife said, ‘This fella is going to be a boxer!.’

It was an easy birth as Margaret was in labour for only an hour because Conor was in a hurry to make himself known.”

Young Conor grew up with his older sisters Aoife and Erin at Crumlin, a suburb in Dublin that is best known for featuring the largest children’s hospital in Ireland, Our Lady’s Children Hospital Crumlin.

It was only a matter of years before the prophetic midwife’s declaration was fulfilled in Conor who blended his childhood passion for association football (also played for Lourdes Celtic Football Club) with boxing at Crumlin Boxing Club when he was aged 12.

Conor McGregor Education:

McGregor had his basic and secondary education at an Irish immersion school known as Coláiste de hÍde in Tallaght Dublin.

In 2005, he joined his family in relocating to Lucan in Dublin. The move didn’t go down well with Conor, given the fact that his good old childhood friends were at Crumlin, and he had no plans of making new friends.

“It felt like we had moved to ‘the back arse of nowhere’. I certainly did not handle it (moving house) well. I eventually did. But at the time, I had a lot of resentment towards my family. I actually was really upset for a long time.”

Recalled Conor of the exodus.

It was at Lucan that Conor completed his secondary school education at Gaelcholáiste Coláiste Cois Life, after which he began a plumbing apprenticeship.

Conor also took out time to make new friends, notable among which was Tom Egan, a teenager who, like himself, shared the same passion for competitive fighting.

It did not take long before passion saw both friends commence training in mixed martial arts (MMA).

Conor McGregor Biography Facts – Road To Fame:

After undergoing a series of training in MMA, ambitious Conor in his late teens, met his current coach, John Kavanagh in an awkward manner after he engaged and beat up two fighters in Kavanagh’s gym.

The show-off which Conor perpetrated under the guise of sparring did not go down well with Kavanagh, who responded by pinning Conor down with heavy blows until the pummeled teen assured that he didn’t come for a street brawl but to train.

Thus began what is now considered a long-term working relationship between Conor and his head coach Cavanagh.

After Cavanagh stepped into the picture, Conor’s love for MMA knew no bounds. The plumber apprentice was willing to tell anyone who cared to listen that he was a UFC champion in the making. Months after, Conor took the bold decision of ditching plumbing in order to train full-time.

The decision was not approved by Conor’s dad, who didn’t see a future for his son in MMA.

“You’ll be sorry when I’m a millionaire. I will become a self-made millionaire at the age of 25”

MacGregor remembered telling his father.

The feat made him become the first European professional to hold titles in two divisions simultaneously as well as secured him booking for his first fight with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Conor made the UFC debut against Marcus Brimage in April 2013 winning by knockout in the first round. The debut victory endeared him to many including UFC president Dana White who remarked that:

The rest, as they say, is history.

Irked by the development, Conor responded with a tweet that read, “You’ll strip me of nothing.”

He matched his tweet with action by showing up with an entourage at the end of a media briefing held two days before the UFC 223 event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It was at the Center that Conor wreaked havoc by throwing a hand truck at a bus containing UFC fighters, injuring two in the process.
