Young Katy has English, German, Irish, and Portuguese family roots. She was brought up in a conservative manner owing to her parents’ religious disposition.

Their itinerant works as pastors did not only see her grow up with her siblings -Angela and younger brother, David- across various regions of the U.S but dictated her childhood taste for Gospel music.

“The only things I was allowed to listen to were the Sister Act 1 and 2 soundtracks.”

revealed Katy about her childhood taste for music.

Though itinerant-oriented, Katy Perry’s parents’ job as pastors was nothing close to lucrative. In fact, the family battled with financial difficulties. Katy Perry’s parents survived on welfare and food donated by parishioners.

While the difficulties raged on with the accompanying change of environments, one thing remained constant; Katy’s budding love for music.

Katy Perry Education:

Notable among Katy’s academic progress was her brief and unstable elementary education. She had it in religious institutions and camps, including Santa Barbara Christian School. This school is in California. She also attended paradise Valley Christian School in Arizona.

Speaking to ABC News about the distorted nature of her early education, Katy noted that:

“I was being pulled out of school even in the middle of school and sometimes being home-schooled. Sometimes we were sent to these  really half-Christain, half-education, I-dont-know-what-they-were-schools”.

“Everything I had in my life at that time was very church-related. I didn’t know there was another world that existed beyond that”.

Notes by Katy on her staunch religious upbringing.

However, higher education at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, California, ushered in a brave new world for Katy who cashed in on the secular nature of the public institution to explore new grounds.

“I was a hop-around. I hung out with the rockabilly crew, the guys who were trying to be rappers, the funny kids,”

Notes Katy.

Katy Perry Biography Facts – Road To Fame Story:

It wasn’t long before Katy, aged 15, dropped out from Dos Pueblos High School after obtaining her GED.

The decision was informed by her resolve to focus on producing music, an activity she knew best for the better part of her childhood.

The first stop on her pursuit of a career in music was studying Italian Opera at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara.

It was at the academy that Katy’s exhibition of vocal prowess caught the attention of rock artists Steve Thomas and Jennifer Knapp, from Nashville in Tennessee.

Steve and Jenniffer took Katy to Nashville, where they helped her master the art of songwriting and the use of Guitar.

They also facilitated Katy’s signing to Red Hill Records where she recorded her debut album, “Katy Hudson” (a gospel record).

The album, which was released in 2001, did not record commercial success as only a few copies were sold before the record label folded up at the end of that same year.

Katy Perry Bio – Rise To Fame:

Moving on, Katy took the bold decision of transitioning from gospel to secular music. The resolve which saw her relocate to Los Angeles also informed the need for her to adopt the stage name Katy Perry, (using her mother’s maiden name).

While in Los Angeles, Katy had good and bad experiences. On the good part, she met and worked with amazing people including producer Glen Ballard and songwriters:  Ballard, Dr Luke, Butch Walker, just to mention a few.

On the bad part, Katy was dropped by two record labels -Def Jam-distributed label Java in 2004 and Columbia records in 2006- before the albums that she was recording could reach the finish line.

The year 2007 brought good tidings for Katy, who signed to Capitol Records. Everything fell into place for the singer as she added an “undeniable smash” to her backlog from previous labels, resulting in the release of her album “One of the Boys” in 2008.

The album, which contained hit singles like “I kissed a Girl” and “Ur so gay” reached number nine on the US Billboard 200 and sold no fewer than 7 million copies worldwide. The rest, as they say, is history.

“When he was filming ‘Get Him to the Greek,’ I did a cameo with him. My scene called for me to make out with him. And on the way down the stairs after the scene, I was hopping like a bunny. I hop like a bunny when I’m happy — I get a bit childlike.”

More on Katy Perry Love Life:

Russell and Katy dated afterwards and got engaged on the 31st of December 2009 after which they tied the knot on the 23rd of October 2010 in India.

Months after their divorce it was discovered that the major bone of contention between the celebrity couples was Russell’s Jealousy over the emergence of photos that captured Katy holding hands with a guitarist, Robert Aykroyd.

Russell would later admit to giving up too early in his marriage struggles, a development that he considers to be a major mistake of his life.

Subsequent relationships after Katy’s divorce include her affairs with the star of Twilight, Robert Pattinson (1), Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend John Mayer (2) and Dj Diplo (3).

Katy is, at the time of this post, dating actor, Orlando Bloom. The lovebirds who first met in 2016 dated until the end of the year before breaking up due to irreconcilable differences.

Although photos that suggest that the duo might be dating again surfaced in May 2018, it is without doubt that they don’t have bigger plans as Bloom is strongly against marriage, family and children.
