He also earned a scholarship to the prestigious Eton College, which is known to have educated no fewer than 20 former prestigious Prime Ministers of the U.K.

Johnson did not graduate from the college without leaving his footprints on the sands of time. He was secretary of the school debating society. And editor of her newspaper, “The Eton College Chronicle” before graduating from the college.

At the peak of his academic pursuits, Johnson won a scholarship. To read Literae Humaniores at Balliol College, Oxford. There, he was part of a generation of Oxford undergraduates that dominated British politics and media.

His notable engagements at Oxford include co-editing the college’s satirical magazine Tributary and playing Rugby for the institution’s team.

In 1986, Johnson became Union President of the college after losing an earlier campaign for the position in 1984.

At the peak of his career with The Daily Telegraph, Johnson was promoted to the position of assistant editor. And chief political columnist. This was before he started contemplating a career in politics. Needless to write much, his early shots at securing a political office failed.

The failed shots include; standing as a conservative candidate for Member of the European Parliament (1994) and thereafter, seeking a seat in UK House of Commons.

Falling back on his journalism career, Johnson became involved in a scandal when he allegedly cooperated to disclose the private address of a fellow Journalist to an aggrieved friend – Darius Guppy – for battering.

He was also found to accord less attention to his job by being consistently late in delivering his columns.

Notwithstanding, he had a few happy moments by appearing on an April 1998 episode of Have I Got News for You, where he was viewed as entertaining and invited back to later episodes.

Johnson soon became well known to the public by his entertaining TV appearances and was invited to appear on other shows like Question Time, Top Gear and Parkinson.

Boris Johnson Biography – Rise To Fame Story:

1999 was the year which Johnson’s popularity on TV emboldened him to stand as the Conservative candidate for Henley, a safe seat in Oxfordshire.

He won the constituency during the 2001 general election and went on to be re-elected for the same position in 2005 amidst controversies. Two years later, Johnson campaigned for the position of Mayor of London and won the 2008 mayoral election.

His Subsequent political aspirations include securing a re-election bid as mayor of London, an office he held between 2012-2016. He was also elected as a member of Uxbridge and South Ruislip during the 2015 general election.

In 2016 Johnson played important roles in the successful Vote Leave campaign for Brexit. Three years later, he was elected as Conservative Leader and emerged as prime minister after the resignation of Theresa May.

Stanley Johnson is Boris’ dad. He was born on the 18th of August 1940 and worked as an author during Boris life.

The father of 6 was also a former employee of the World Bank and the European Commission. He got separated from Johnson’s mom when he was aged 14 in 1978.

Years after the finalization of her divorce with Johnson’s dad in 1980, Charlotte remarried American professor Nicholas Wahl in 1988 but was widowed in 1996.
