At the age of eight (8), Ben’s parents had divorced and so he had to live with his mother and brother, spending a brief period in Boston, Massachusetts, US; where his maternal family resides, and then back to Detroit.

As a child, Ben was raised in an impoverished, single-parent household in the inner streets of Detroit with his elder brother.
